Golden Turmeric - dIY Tea Recipe
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric (or a small piece of fresh turmeric root, grated)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger (or a small piece of fresh ginger, grated)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon honey (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil (optional)
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
Prepare the Turmeric Mixture:
- In a small bowl, combine the ground turmeric, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, and ground black pepper. If using fresh turmeric and ginger, grate them finely.
Boil the Water:
- In a saucepan, bring 1 cup of water to a boil.
Infuse the Turmeric:
- Add the prepared turmeric mixture to the boiling water. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.
- Pour in the milk of your choice (dairy or plant-based). Simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes, ensuring it doesn't come to a boil.
Sweeten and Flavor:
- Add honey to sweeten the tea, adjusting the quantity to suit your taste. If desired, add a teaspoon of coconut oil for added richness and flavor.
Strain and Serve:
- Using a fine mesh strainer, pour the tea into your favorite mug to remove any residue. Discard the residue or reuse for compost.
- Sip and savor the warm, golden goodness of your homemade turmeric tea. Feel free to adjust the ingredients to achieve your preferred taste and consistency.
Note: Turmeric can settle at the bottom of the cup, so give it a gentle stir if needed. Experiment with the ingredient ratios to find the perfect blend that suits your palate.
