Maximizing Milk Production: A Mother’s Guide to Exclusive Pumping and Herbal Tea

Introduction: Hey uRBAN wHIP moms and moms-to-be! Today, I’m sharing my personal journey with exclusive pumping and a special herbal tea recipe that really helped my milk production. As a mom who’s been through this with all five of my children and have successfully breastfed them all, I’ve gathered some insights and tips that might help you too.

The Exclusive Pumping Routine: Pumping every 3 hours (15-30 minutes each session) has been my mantra, even at night. Yes, it’s demanding, but the results are worth it. Sometimes, I stretch it to every 5 hours overnight. Remember, keeping your nipples stimulated is key. Handpumping the breast that the baby is not feeding on at the time has helped me tremendously. My breast leaked milk so profusely that it helped to end pump while feeding.

Nutrition and Hydration: Eating well and staying hydrated are crucial. I make sure to have a balanced diet and drink plenty of water throughout the day. This constant nourishment supports milk production and keeps energy levels up. It is something you have to make sure you intentionally are doing throughout the day. The same kind of small meals and liquids throughout the day just as when you were pregnant is exactly what kept my milk supply up.

Dealing with Tongue Tie: I have no experience with tongue-tie but I have been told from other mothers that opting for exclusive pumping from the start is what is most helpful. If you’re facing a similar situation, know that you’re not alone, and exclusive pumping is a viable and effective option.

Herbal Tea for Milk Production: Each morning, I enjoy a cup of herbal tea that promotes healthy milk production. The recipe, shared by a friend, includes:

  • ½ cup red raspberry leaf
  • ½ cup dried nettle leaf
  • ¼ cup fenugreek seeds
  • ¼ cup fennel seeds
  • ¼ cup alfalfa leaf
  • ¼ cup dried chamomile flowers
  • ¼ cup dandelion leaf

Steep ½ tablespoon of this mix in 8 oz of water. All ingredients are organic from Mountain Rose Herbs. It’s not only delicious but also effective!

Closing Thoughts: Exclusive pumping is a commitment, but it’s doable with the right routine and support. The herbal tea is a natural booster that has worked wonders for me. If you’re on a similar journey, I hope my experience offers some guidance and encouragement.

Engagement: I’d love to hear from other moms! Are you exclusively pumping? Have you tried herbal teas for milk production? Share your stories and tips with our uRBAN wHIP community. Let’s support each other on this beautiful, challenging journey of motherhood.
