Cleaning your teeth with dirt sounds pretty oxymoronic, right?
You might be surprised to know that clay toothpaste actually leaves your teeth feeling very clean. One of the things I like best about it is that it doesn't contain glycerin, which doesn't clean but actually coats your teeth. This coating, while it may sound like a good thing, prevents teeth from being able to remineralize and can actually weaken teeth over time.
Here's a few things I've found out about using traditional toothpaste.
Fluoride is: toxic, once used as a rat poisoning and insecticide, a pollutant made of aluminum by products, can actually cause your teeth to crumble in large doses!
Glycerin is: great for your skin, but leaves a coat on your teeth that prevents natural re-enamelization.
What's it taste like?
Our Tooth-Paste does taste & smell good, It is loaded with Organic Peppermint, Cloves & Cinnamon. It also has Ground Sage & Organic Strawberry to whiten and brighten teeth.
It has brightened my family’s teeth and I have noticed dark spots disappearing and think it might be remineralizing our teeth! Clay has trace minerals, so it’s possible..
It has a wonderful flavor, and it really does smell good. All of my children love it from the oldest at 15years to the youngest my 5 year old!
I love this tooth powder because it leaves my teeth feeling clean and fresh. You wet your toothbrush and dip in the powder and brush. The powder does not go bad because there are no liquid ingredients and all of these ingredients discourage bacterial growth. This tooth powder is safe for the whole family. There is plenty of powder per container so it lasts a long time. If there is more than one person using it, you may want separate containers for each.
If you are used to the toothpaste that foams in your mouth this will take some getting used to. It really does leave your mouth nice, fresh and clean and not full of chemicals like the toothpaste bought in stores. I will never go back to using products loaded with chemicals for my family again.
Kaolin Clay: Rich in vital minerals that are very beneficial for our teeth and gums – like calcium and potassium — kaolin clay is a fantastic non-toxic, and not to mention very affordable, product that has become my new favorite for brushing my teeth because it has been used for hundreds and hundreds of years to detoxify the body. In fact, when kaolin clay is consumed, it has the ability to absorb and eliminate toxins. When it’s used in tooth powder recipes, kaolin clay is a very mild abrasive that gently scrubs and beautifully polishes our teeth. I think the high mineral content of the clay has the ability to mineralize the teeth and heal decay.
Peppermint will make your breath smell fresh, and it’s widely used to promote stress relief and support digestion.
Cinnamon brings a familiar, spicy flavor along with its reputation as an antioxidant used to promote healthy immune function.
Baking Soda: Finely Ground to help with scrubbing of the teeth by scraping off the stains on the teeth conduced by consumption of beverages like coffee, tea, etc. baking soda also removes plaque from the teeth.
Stevia: We chose to use Stevia to enhance the flavor because research has shown that Xylitol can be fatal to dogs and cats and personally do not want to include it as my littles still ingest small amounts of toothpaste.
Clove: Antiseptic and germicidal properties that help fight infections. Clove and clove oil boost the immune system by purifying the blood and help to fight against various diseases. Can effectively cure many digestive problems
Myrrh: Contains highly antiseptic properties and is excellent for overall oral health
Strawberry: Whitens teeth
Important note: Always read ingredients. Tons of “natural” products have the same old chemicals and additives as the regular brands, including fluoride, SLS, and glycerin. Natural brands often cut the artificial sweeteners and colors, but often that’s not a big enough improvement in my opinion to spend double and triple the money
Our Dental Hygiene Routine:
Oil pulling: This practice has actually been my answer to sensitive teeth. It really did work to fix my sensitive-to-cold-and-sweet teeth and it also works as a great Tooth Whitener.
Note on Fluoride:
Fluoride: The world existed for a very long time without fluoride, and contrary to what you might imagine, everyone didn’t lose their teeth. It was only when industrial foods like sugar, white flour, and trans fats entered the scene that dental health went to pot.
